Halloween effects are in. Christmas goes first from November 15.
Four corners. That’s the whole manual.
Plug a projector into your iPhone or iPad. Drag a shape onto a window, a door or a pumpkin. Pick an effect and it plays right there. The first time takes about five minutes.
Free to start. No account.
How it works
Connect, shape, fill. Nothing to export and no timeline to learn.
-
1
Connect a projector
Use a USB-C or Lightning to HDMI adapter, or AirPlay screen mirroring. Bengala finds the projector by itself. On Home, tap the projector status at the top, then Show test pattern. A grid appears on the wall, so you can check the picture before you build anything.
-
2
Add a shape and drag its corners
Start with a polygon, a circle or a stencil. Drag each corner onto the real thing: a door, a window, a pumpkin, a box. The picture bends to fit, so a flat video sits straight on a crooked wall.
-
3
Fill it with something that moves
Pick an effect, or use your own photo, video or color. Each shape can show something different, or they can all share one. Effects download once and stay on your phone.
Effects sorted by what you’re lighting up
Every effect sits in a theme, so you find what suits a window or a wall in seconds instead of scrolling through a long list. Effects download when you tap them. The app stays small, and new ones arrive without an update.

Flames, embers, water and sky. A fireplace on a brick wall, clouds slow enough to leave on all evening.
-
Space
Stars, planets and slow clouds of color.
-
Neon
Glowing lines, grids and wireframes on black. Scanlines and a little old TV static.
-
Abstract
Light tunnels, ink and lava that never settle, patterns that bend and breathe. Some of these move fast.
-
Halloween
Eyes in the hedge, glowing pumpkin faces, things at the window. It leads the app from mid September to early November.
-
Christmas
Frost on the glass, icicles, warm lights for a house front. It leads the app from mid November to early January.
HDMI or AirPlay
Any projector with an HDMI input works, and so does any projector or TV that supports AirPlay. No computer needed.
Recommended
Wired, with HDMI
A USB-C or Lightning to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable. Bengala sees the projector as soon as you plug it in. Full quality and no lag you can notice. Use a cable rated for 4K 60 Hz if you can.
No cable
Wireless, with AirPlay
Open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring and pick the projector. It is easy and fine for slow effects. Expect some lag and a softer picture.
Projecting through a window?
From behind window film, a sheer curtain or a shower liner, the picture comes out flipped. Turn on Mirror output and it reads correctly. A projector on its side? Rotate the output.

Questions
What projector do I need?
Any projector with an HDMI input works, and so does one that supports AirPlay. For a window, or an object in a dark room, 300 ANSI lumens is the floor. A one-car garage door needs 1,000 or more, a two-car door 2,000 or more, and the front of a whole house 3,000 or more, and more near a streetlight. Our guide to cheap projectors explains lumens, throw distance and resolution.
How do I connect my iPhone or iPad?
Wired: a USB-C or Lightning to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable. Wireless: Screen Mirroring in Control Center. Wired is the better choice because AirPlay adds lag and lowers the quality.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up. Your projects, photos and videos stay on your device.
Does it need internet?
Only to download effects and to buy Pro. Once an effect is on your phone, it plays offline.
Is it free?
You can start free with one project and a set of free effects. Pro unlocks the rest. The free plan puts a small Bengala watermark on the projection, and it moves.
How do I cancel Pro?
Apple manages subscriptions. On your iPhone open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel. The lifetime plan is a one-time purchase, so there is nothing to cancel.
Can I project through a window?
Yes. If the projector is behind the glass, a film or a curtain, turn on Mirror output so the picture is not flipped. Our window guide covers the setup.
Is it safe if someone is sensitive to flashing light?
Some effects flash or change brightness fast. Party, neon and abstract ones most of all, and some animated colors too. If you or a guest has photosensitive epilepsy, pick calm effects or skip those themes, and read the warning in our terms.
What does Bengala mean?
It is Spanish for sparkler, the kind you hold in your hand. Say it ben-GAH-la.
Pick a wall. Give it five minutes.
